I recently bought a 19" hanns-g widescreen because of all the great reviews on it. Great monitor but the thing that still puzzles me is: who is hanns-g and how did they just pop up out of nowhere and have great products?

Hanns G is owned by Hannstar Display Corp, which has been around since 1998. They are among the 3 largest TFT-LCD makers in Taiwan and among the top 10 in the world. They have done a lot of OEM for companies like HP Compaq and others. They just recently started doing LCD's under their own brand and thats why you are seeing all these promotions.

BendixG15 is right. Funny thing I bought two 19" Hann LCD's back in August. One from PC Connection and one from Office Depot. The PCConnect has 120.00 in rebates. There was a 20.00 rebate from White Bear Lake and 100.00 from OnRebate. I received the 100.00 Onrebate in my Paypal account 12 days after I mailed it in, (I used the expedited service that was 9.00 off my rebate.). The 20.00 White Bear lake took the 8 weeks.
The Office Depot rebate is still outstanding as I write this. It's been either 14 or 15 weeks so far and the RebatesHQ.com website says it's still being processed. I actually had to resubmit it by fax after 8 weeks when it wasn't showing up on the website. I called and they said they never received it and would I like to resubmit. That was the third straight RebatesHQ.com rebate I have had resubmit by fax because they said they never received it. The other two were for Hitachi hard drives. Tell me, what are the odds that three rebates in a row, to the same rebate house, were not received!!!
Enough of my rant. Point is, this is a rebatesHQ.com 80.00 rebate and I won't do another Hann or Hitachi rebate with them. Buyer beware.

edit:
There is a thread over FW that shows many, many people who didn't have their rebates show up and they called and were asked to resubmit by fax like me. I am not allowed to link to FW but it's easy to find. Just search Hann in the threads and look at the one with over 200 posts and 20,0000 views, (that was started in August). Look at the last two pages and you will see what I am talking about. It seems that Hann/Rebateshq is systematically ignoring any rebate that was mailed in. Why else would they request that people resubmit by fax. You cannot lose that many rebates that were mailed in unless you were chucking them in the dumpster.
