Seems like a pretty good deal to me for a 17" Flat Panel. Does anybody have any feedback on this model? The url says "refurbished" in it, but i've ordered items from Dell before with this type of link, and they've always ended up being new items. No mention of "refurbished in the description.

Link

Add stackable $25 off $350 coupon today only for even better deal. Too bad Dell shipped mine already!!

No catch and not refurbished....Dell links have the "refurbished=" at the end of the URL for some reason...I've seen many, but always new. If you have a $30.00 coupon from Dell, you can get this jewel for $385.xx shipped! :D

Great deal....but I'm overspent for the next while....sigh! :(

Well that is Dell's lower end 17" model. Their higher end model has much better specs. And that is only $560 right now... a very good deal, even better with a $30 off coupon.

dammit, i just bought this monitor a month ago for $479 plus tax (15% off promo from dell) :|

$415 is smoking hot for this monitor. It's definitely NOT refurbished (the refurbished field is empty in the URL).

I don't know if it's really a "lower end" monitor as it's specs aren't that off from the more expensive model. From what it looks like, the screen is a samsung (just a guess but the design is way too similar not to be). It's got a good response time (25ms i believe) so games and DVD's are awesome on it. The design is much better than the more expensive model also.

You guys should jump on this while you can!

i have the more expensive model at work, and a coworker has the cheaper one.

i like the stylings of the cheaper one much better than mine. both are excellent units. i do not play games & dvds at work so i cannot tell you how the response etc is for that, but its great for work.

DVI doesn't make much difference, at least on my 15" LCD.
I think the higher end model looks better.

Confirmed samsung manufacture.
Does anyone see anything on response times, or should I assume it is the same as the syncmaster 171b(25ms). All the stats look the same, minus the DVI. If this is the same model, then this is a GREAT deal. Perhaps they are clearing out for the next-gen LCDs? Also: ARE there any non1timeuse, applicable coupon codes applicable? I'm not asking for them, just for confirmation that they exist.

just replied to the other thread on the 20% off dell monitors, so i will repaste here

ok, i got in the buy 2 get one free deal yesterday, for the E171FP. price came out to $370 each after taxes (ground shipping was free). what was amazing was, i ordered yesterday at around 4 P.M. pacific time, and 3 boxes were sitting on the side of my house today. yup, ground shipping turned out to be almost same day shipping! i am selling the 3rd one for around $420 to a friend, so me and my bro-in-law will get ours for around $350 each.

anyways, back to my point, i went from a Viewsonic P810 21" to this. i am still getting used to the smaller screen, but i am very easy to please, so i can get used to it. it is very bright, as anandtech's white background is almost blinding me! i played counterstrike to see if there was ghosting. there is, but i find it tolerable. i got in on the Envision 17" monitor deal a few months back from staples, and the ghosting on that thing was killer. totally ruined the game so i sold it. i think response on that was 40ms while this is roughly 25ms. as i said, there is a bit of ghosting, but only if you are looking for it. get into the game, i don't even notice it.

all in all, a good monitor (especially at the price i got it for), hardcore gamers who demand utmost PQ will be dissapointed (you guys need less than 20ms or even 15ms response time). i plan to keep this one, until i start work as an attorney in a couple months, then will start looking at some new generation 19" LCDs.

btw, anybody know why the buy 2 get one free thread was locked?

Squalish2357, the response time is 25ms. it says so in the support section of this monitor (i couldn't find this by looking at dell, had to use yahoo/google which then found it on dell's site). here is the link to E171FP Specs

MowSow, i'm not to keen on the DVI. my friend has another dell (i forget which model) which has both, we tested both and couldn't tell the difference. it should be better, and it probably is. but i wouldn't kill myself to get it, and for some, $100+ isn't worth it.

We have both at work. Side by side one using DVI the other not. There is NO difference between the two, at leats not one worth >$100.

Wow, nice to see that Dell is moving to thin-frame displays on their cheaper models. I have the 18" flat panels in a dual display setup and the thin bezel really makes it nice.

Looks like a nice monitor for a good price, I paid $500 for my wife's 15" NEC just about 6 months ago.

Is it *really* a bad thing it doesn't do DVI? I mean, when we go to do dualhead LCDs, how many of us have two DVI-I plugs on our video cards? ;-) Mine only has 1 DVI and 1 ADC. And Radeon 9700's have 1 VGA, 1 S-Vid, and 1 DIV-I.

Definitely buying this one tonight.

I really want to buy a LCD monitor for home because I spend atleast 10 hrs/day in front of computers (for work and for pleasure)
I wear contact lenses and i feel my eyes deteriorating over the last 3 years.

But before I spend some $$$ on a 19' LCD, I want to test them out.

does bestbuy and staples have a return policy on LCD monitors?
is there a re-stocking fee?

I really would like to try atleast 2 LCD monitors and see if it really makes a difference to my eyes.
I keep hearing how wonderful these LCD's are, but I don't know how true that is coz I've never used one for longer than 5-10 minutes.

can someone suggest which monitors should I try?

I use a 19" KDS CRT right now....

thanks

Oh... in regards to Gordita's question. I am not sure if you find these models anywhere, but I have a 19 and a 15" here at home and they are gorgeous! No need to be worried about it. Besides, you have 30 day money back with dell!

screw dvi!! :p it's not worth the additional $100+ in price! If you're in the market for a 17" LCD, at $390, you need to buy this monitor!!

For any who bought this monitor a few weeks ago at just 15% off ($479), I just called back and got the difference refunded to my credit card!! Just call Dell customer service at 800-915-3355. I just told them that I could just return the monitor and get my money back and then reorder at $90 off! They told me that the $25 coupon would be price matched in this one time and that they normally wouldn't price match with coupons. They say it'll take 30 days to credit back but I got a ref#.
