17" CRT vs 15" LCD

I have these already, and I'm wondering which of the two are better for the eyes.

My setup is kind of weird:

W D RRR W
W D M RRR W
W D RRR W

Imagine W is the Wall, D is the desk, M is the monitor (facing towards the wall), and R is the rest of the room, and the last 3 W's are the walls (sorry, bad "Drawing")

Since I'm looking at the monitor, and the rest of the room is behind the monitor. I heard that since it's "zoomed out" like that, it's bad for your eyes.

Dillemma:
I heard LCDs are easier on the eyes
But the LCD is smaller, so I end up seeing more of the "room" in front of me and it might "zoom out".

Unfortunately I can't keep the desk and the monitor against the wall (has to do with my 5.1 surround setup, and no space).

So:
17" CRT vs 15" LCD

Not sure what you mean by this. 😕

In any case, since in reality either a 17" CRT or a 15" LCD will get you the same usable resolution of 1024x768, I'd go with the LCD. 17" CRT's can generally do 1280x1024 or 1280x960 - but at low refresh rates. I personally would not run lower than 85Hz on a CRT for any reason.

Pick up a cheap, flat 19" CRT that'll do 85hz at what resolution you wanna run. My bro got a Viewsonic from somewhere here on the forums for something really cheap like $80 shipped and it has a real nice picture. I wouldn't skimp on a monitor, it'll be usable through several computers. This 900NF that I bought years ago is AWESOME still.

Be aware that the 15" lcd gives you a viewable 15 inches while a 17" crt gives you 16 viewable inches...only 1 inch difference, not 2.

I still like CRTs for most applications. You get a good image at most any resolution the CRT is capable of whereas LCD monitors only have one really good resolution and that is the native one. You can get a decent picture on an LCD at other resolutions, but only those where the number of pixels is divided evenly. On LCDs pixels are physical transistors (so you can't split pixels) - while on CRTs they are virtual... Not to mention the lower cost. The 1024 resolution on a 17" CRT is easier to read than the same 1024 on a 15" LCD because of that exra inch of visible area.
