Hi,
Ive got £220 saved up and was wondering what a good "17 monitor for the price, or a cheap "19 monitor for similar price(upo £20 more)
I need it to be able to do 1280x1024@85hz at least, support for 1600x1200@75hz+ would be good as well, but not essential.

The reason that im upgrading is because i have a really old "17 monitor that i picked up second hand a few years ago, thats got OK image quality but takes up loads of room on my small desk(about half of it). so thats also a reason.

my current video card is a creative labs geforce3 Ti200 @230/510 w/crystal orb@7v. not an amazing card for image quality, but in january, i will be getting a Hercules 3D Prophet 9700PRO 128mb, which has far better quality than the Ti200 i belive.

my uses for the monitor, will be gaming & internet mostly, some work in ms office, and the occasional DVD, so an allrounder monitor would be great.

Samsung 957p
Compaq p910 (16x12 at 85) -- very nice but out of production, so hard to find new. Should be $200

I saw a 19" Hansol (I think that's what it's name was) monitor on newegg going for about $160 (USD). Never seen one, or heard anything about the brand, but the folks that posted reviews seemed impressed, or at least happy with the purchase.

I have the Hansol 19 inch 900p model. It has been a great monitor for the money. It has received a number of good to very good reviews. :););):)

I'm not sure what brands and options are over there across the pond, but there are a ton of rebates popping up stateside over here on monitors. Keep an eye out before you buy.

I'd recommend the Samsung 955DF, but I've had a bad experience with it. I got one and it was excellent. Very good colors and clarity, except in one section of the monitor. I'm sure it was just a problem with mine, so I returned it and am waiting for a new one. I've heard plenty of good things and seen good reviews on this one, but I've also heard people say theirs has flaws, and I've gotten a flawed one. I'd have to assume that Samsung might have some problems with quality consitency. Another thing is that the AT review said that it was a bit out of focus in the bottom right corner. Mine had no such problem, which further supports my guess.

I got the NEC Multisync FE991SB for 220 dollars a couple of months ago. Clear picture and whatnot, I would reccomend it.
