17/19" LCD Recommendation

I've decided its time to upgrade from a CRT. Which would be most practical for videos/gaming? Picture quality and colors must be good. Any experiences with the Viewsonic Pro Series?

Samsung 970P, or if you that doesn't suit your budget well, then ViewSonic VP930b. Both have the better 8bpp(24-bit) color, great viewing angles, and awesome contrast.

Viewsonic VP930B
I have one and it's a great monitor. I though I would see ghosting but I didn't see any at all. People talk about the backlight leakage and that X thing, if you turn down the contrast and brightness into "acceptable" levels (the factory defaults are WAY WAY to bright) you don't even notice the X problem. (And if I ever notice it it's on an all black screen, and when do you ever watch an all black screen).

I have the Samsung 930b which I have seen a bunch of people complain about. I have had no problems and got it cheap. 19", great for gaming. Just install the "Natural Color" program hidden on the driver CD that comes with it and you will be happy. Plus, I got it for under $200. The other ones can be a bit pricy...

It is 6-bit color but I haven't noticed much of a difference...

Are there any differences between lets say the Viewsonic 19" VP930B and 17" VP730B other than the obvious size?

Just noticed the 19" has double the contrast ratio. What kind of effect does that have?

Dell 2005fpw 😉 . Seriously the Viewsonic is one good looking monitor 🙂 .

Dell 2005FPW. I have this monitor and I can seriously say that while it may have it's flaws, it's a very very good monitor.

Dell 2005FPW FTW  especially if you can get it around $360-370 ... better for movies, and once more games start supporting widescreen

I must say that the Samsung 970p managed a feat no other computer hardware has ever managed before.... Satisfying both me and my sweet and precious wife 🙂

if u want to pay a good price i recommend the lg 1710bk or sk. it is as good as any comparable samsung model. it might be a little outdated so whatever the latest lg is i would go for it.
