Hey Guys,

I was hoping for suggestions on a 17", 1080p gaming laptop. My budget is £850 / $1350 and I'm currently thinking about a Dell Inspiron 17R SE:

i7-3630QM
2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 130W
17.3" 1080p LED Display with Anti-Glare
1TB Serial ATA (5400RPM)
8GB RAM

What do people reckon to the Dell?

I'm struggling to find anything matching these specs with a 17" screen for anywhere near this price - can anyone suggest anything else?

One alternative is the MSI GE70 0ND but is it really worth £300 more - 2GB 660 vs 650 and 7200 vs 5400rpm being the main differences?

MSI GE70 0ND
i7-3630QM
2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX660M Graphics Card
17.3" 1080p LED Display with Anti-Glare
750GB Serial ATA (7200RPM)
8GB RAM

Anything else out there?

Thanks

What is the price on that laptop? It would be a decent gaming laptop, but the 650M is probably the lowest card that I would choose for gaming, and a 5400RPM hard drive is not ideal. If the price is around 1000.00, that is OK. If it is close to your upper limit, you can probably do better. I notice you are listing the prices in pounds. Do you not live in the US? In the US you should be able to get something from Asus or MSI with at least a 660M and 7200 RPM hard drive for the upper end of your price range.

Currently £799 but there are 10% off codes around.

I was hoping to be able to do some FPS gaming for the next couple of years - I appreciate I'll have to crank down some of the settings but would the 650 cope? Is the 660 really a required step up? Maybe I should forgo the 17" for a 15.4" screen for more 660 laptops?
Do you not live in the US?
Yep live in the UK.

15.4 vs 17 inch is a personal choice I guess, but if you want to stay around the 1000.00 price range, you will have a lot more choices if you are willing to accept 15.6 inch models. Try the Lenovo website, they recently had a 15.6 inch model with a 660M for around 900.00, which was a great price, but it was a low res screen. With 1080p screen I believe it was 999.00 dollars. You might also look at the Sager website if they will ship to the UK. They have some 660M 15.6 inch models for 1099.00 in the US.
