16X DVD-ROM Issue

Hello,

I bought a 16X dvd-rom drive before the days of dvd burners and therefore it cannot read any burned dvd's i.e. dvd+r, dvd-r. Is there a way I can change this? Is it a driver issue or do I need to buy a new drive?

PS: I bought it a while ago so I'm not sure of the make or model of the drive but it is a 16x
 
you could check the manufacturers site to see if there's a firmware update that will fix the issue (unlikely), otherwise it's a case of buying a new one.
