16Mb Geforce2 MX or 32Mb TNT2 M64

Hello guys,

Which video card do you recommend, A 16Mb Geforce2 MX or a 32Mb TNT2 M64. My friend is buying a new computer, and he has a choice of either card. Thank you for your suggestions.

Just for clarification, the Geforce2 MX is 16 Megabytes, compared to a 32 megabytes TNT2 M64. I know the geforce2 MX is newer technology, but does the 32 megs of ram on the TNT2 M64 give it the edge? Thank You.

The m64 is clocked slower, has 64 bit memory(witch is also clocked slower), has less texture units. The m64 has like 35% of the memory bandwith the mx has.

16MB of textures is not going to be a problem anytime soon, and as far as a few games are concerned, texture compression will save the small 16MB texture RAM on the MX, while the TNT2 will run out of RAM as there is no DXTC support.

Also, although not widely used, the GF2 MX can off-load work from the CPU with T&L (although this is slightly meaningless at the moment as only a few games use this), as well as just being generally faster.

Why would you want a 16MB Geforce 2 MX? The cheapest on pricewatch.com is $87 + S&H. The 32MB MX version costs $89 + S&H. Go for the 32MB version.
