This would be a great card to stick in a slow DOS/Win98SE "spare parts" system to play older games and 3D games with glide and "3dfx-only" direct3D support. It's more than fast enough for all the games that won't run well on Win XP systems.

I still use my Voodoo 3 on one of my network computers and it works great with anything using the half-life engine.

Alas, its' days are numbered unless you can find more games using a 16bit engine!

There aren't any official XP drivers. Some people have hacked some Win2K drivers into working with XP and higher versions of DirectX (link, somebody?) but the results are mixed. But as MrC4 pointed out, pretty much all new games require 32-bit color support, which the Voodoo 3 doesn't have in 3D mode.

But this would be great for an older computer, especially if you wanted to play legacy Glide games.

This looks incredibly promising for jacking a couple school computers up past 2FPS in CS.

Edit: That is, if they have AGP slots...

I bought one of these from ComputerGeeks on 8/10/02 to put in a machine I am putting together for youngest daughter for Xmas.

At that time I paid $17.96 plus $6 shipping. Going to be disappointed if it doesn't work with Win XP since that is what I plan on running on it...

I don't recall the details but am sure it was a close out. No longer available, of course...

I remember that at CUSA (where I work), the Mac guy got away with an old Voodoo 5 5500 Mac Edition card for about $30. That lucky bastard!

I've always preferred the name "Painfull Rectal Itch" myself, but the boys in the marketing department shot it down...

My kids p3 box still runs a 3dfx VooDoo3. Its great for the games they play and the JumpStart series stuff. I still play Unreal on it now and then cause Glide still looks good there.

Microsoft's XP hardware compatability chart does show the VooDoo3 as being compatabile so I would assume it has a driver within its big self.

Why would someone want one?
Because these are great cards. OK, maybe not for the super gamer but for everyday or an upgrade they are very good. Good color, god driver support. Even XP drivers.
For $18, hard to beat.

Looks like this same card showing up all the time on Epay for $15.99 and shipping (nasty $8.50).

Kinda funny, but looks like I will be running like 3 or 4 PCs for games, and only video card that still isn't working well is my VisionTek 6564 Gforce ti200 (wasn't happy on my XP P4). Several of my old blizzard games just aren't totally happy without a 3dfx, other games run best on older GF2mx, and still older for the Rage Pro. I wonder what I will use on a couple of DOS or Linux systems?

Double weird if one of these old VooDoo cards will do a decent job with XP, then I may stick one in a P4 1.7 GB pretty nice system, so I can pull out the Radeon AIW that replaced the unhappy Visiontek, and stick the AIW finally into a midrange XP1500 but with raid etc. ready to be my AV system.

3DFX, company that just won't die. OTOH maybe Zombie status is fitting for the Voodoo series....
