its twice as loud. still lower than ambient room noise, though.

I think 20dba the same as whispering, so it's not very loud at all!

Yes he's right.

28 dBA is the ambient room noise level.

My Duron machine is barely audible. Without the traffic noise from outside, my computer's noise level should be at 25~30 dBA. It's quiet enough so that I don't notice its existence when I sleep.

although i'm not too familiar with the decibal scale, i do know that it is a logorithmic scale. technically, 19dba is much louder than 16dba, but 19dba is still very quiet. i think a whisper is around 20-21dba

there was a thread on this over at HardOCP. I'll link it when they are done with the database maintenance. The answer there was that a 10db increase is twice as loud as prior, ie: 16 to 26 db, because of the logarithmic measurement. Also mentioned was that when 2 of the same rated fans were used, it added 3 db. ie 2 fans rated @ 30 db, will create 33db of noise.
