I wonder if anyone has had a look at this:
http://www.hddrecovery.com.au/downloads/200ways.pdf
I found it in a fit of manic desperation after my Quantum Fireball 13.6GB primary boot drive died on me last year. But it was at a ripe old age anyhow (5-6 years old) and was after it started exhibiting narcolepsy and bad sectors.
I wonder if there have been any real statistical surveys done on the various brands regarding their failure rates? I'm banking on Western Digital right now. Never liked Maxtor, and Seagate even less. No idea about Hitachi.
