160gb PS3 good buy?

Hey! Some friends already have a PS3 and they're planning to get Borderlands 2 to play online. They're 3...and I saw a 160gb PS3 on sale at 200CAD. No games, 1 controller...

Many good title are under 20 bucks anyways so is this a good buy?
Is the 160gb model a good one?

We have a 320GB and 2 160GB (kids bought their own with Christmas money). We've never missed the extra GB on the cheaper ones. If you're really into demos and such I suppose you could fill up the HD but if your primary purpose is gaming you should never notice the difference.

Besides, you can just replace the drive with just about any 2.5" SATA drive out there if you need more space. I still have more launch 60GB PS3 which I replaced the drive with a 250GB disk a while ago.

I thought they were gonna get an MSRP drop to $200 last E3. A bunch of retailers were anticipating one too as they were all running $50 gift card deals, some had it at $200 even for a while.

I'm amazed they're still $250, and there's a smaller CECH-4000 model on the way. I've heard that they have units available to ship already, but they're sitting on them until more of the current slims are cleared out, without a price drop... Seems like an odd strategy to me.

Also got Demon's Soul for cheap...damn it's a hard game especially when you're not used to a controller 😛

It's not a bad deal. Don't forget the PS3 will accept almost any 2.5'' SATA hard drive or SSD. So you can upgrade it. That's the only difference between the current crop of PS3 SKUs.

I played 2 hours of Red Dead Redemption yesterday eveing...really cool game. Love the voice acting, music and the open world is really nice.

Graphically, i'm a long time PC gamer only with a decent PC, I thought it would be uglier. Sure there's aliasing everywhere and the textures are far from many PC games but overall not that bad.

Just 1 weird thing, everytime I start or quit a game I have a 0.5sec withe flash with a noise...read at many places that it was normal and simply the console adjusting to the resolution. BTW the console is plugged to my 720p Sharp 37" LCD with HDMI.

Overall, for 200CAD i'm really pleased! 🙂

I'd recommend PSN Plus, its $50 for a year subscription, every month they give you a ton of free games. Infamous 2, warhammer space marine and little big planet 2 are available free for PSN plus members this month, pays for itself right there.
