1600+ Heatsink Installation question

Please...any help...I am going to put the heatsink on right now...Is that pink/peach thing on the bottom of the retail 1600+ heatsink the actually thermal pad, or is it the covering for the thermal pad...AMD confuses me with this tape that they mention in the manuals

the pink "stuff" on the bottom of the heatsink is the thermal goo....BUT, you have to be careful. there is often a plastic lining on it, which you MUST remove before you can mount the heatsink

(sometimes there isn't one though, which is why it can be confusing)

but assuming you take off the plastic lining, or that there is no lining on yours, you can fee free to mount the heatsink and make sure the "thermal goo" is making good contact.

try to seat it only once though, repeatedly removing the heatsink and re-seating it will lessen the effectiveness of the heastink pad.

There is a semi hard plastic cover that is protecting the whole bottom of the heatsink, but there doesnt seem to be a tape over the heatsink goo

EDIT: I guess it just didnt have a tape, because I would think it would be obvious

that's most likely the case, if it's not obviously there, then you're fine.

good luck!

Heatsink on...its my first time doing this (well heatsink, but I have put ram in before and I thought I was pressing hard for that) The heatsink requires a lot of force, but I paid extra attention to making sure it is straight on and everything...no cracked die here...I HOPE

yep, definitely gotta shove to get those suckers on...
