"Many others believe that their story shows how society’s increasing materialism is destroying people’s values."

Actually pretty interesting article. Exemplifies three prominent problems in China:

Inflated housing
Entitled children (It's impossible for a working adult to buy a house, so they must rely on parents)
Chinese parents driving children towards excessive levels of academia

Discuss. Do it now!

"If I graduate with a PhD, but don’t even have my own house, what’s the point of having a Ph.D?"
So intelligent, yet so lacking in wisdom.

Do they not have signing bonuses in China? You figured some corp would be bank rolling him for a guarantee of a work commitment. I guess they realize he is too immature.

Being a prodigy just means he has a head start anyways, doesn't necessarily mean he will end up be anything remarkable in any field. It seems he cant fully take advantage of this head start because he is still too immature.
