Find one, then speak.
My local OfficeMax still had one of the clearanced Pacific-Digital branded 16x DVD-ROMs on the shelf, even marked at $19.99. Supposed to be a BTC drive inside as well. If a BTC 16x DVD-ROM isn't selling for $20, in the middle of a high-tech area, why would anyone pay $30 for one? For $40-50, you could get a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive. In fact same said OfficeMax store had the MadDog Multimedia one for just that, after rebate.
I'm still happy with my slow, quiet, region-free, Creative 2x DVD-ROM.

I might get a faster one at some point to rip movies though. I've got a couple of DVDs with blotchy spots on them, I think the layers might be separating. Not good.
