If this also happened to you (or you just need a new switch), I found this 16 port managed 10/100 switch at Computers4Sure for $79.95-10MIR+8.99 shipping. It's a brand I've never heard of before but it also cost less than most 8 port switches and is about half the next cheapest 16 port one I could find. Plus it is "managed" so it has settings that can be applied to each port (such as limitting speed, etc). Plus it can be chained to another of the same switches using 4 cables (rather than the usual one cable). So you get a wider connection between switches rather than having all the second switch's traffic going through one cable).
