16 or 8, 16 or 8, 16 or 8...

Both drives already feature Buffer Under-run protection technology.....ExacLink for both drives.

You don't really need an 8MB buffer, let alone a 16MB buffer.

Go with the LG drive.

Ah, but how do I know you're not trying to boost the Korean economy, Mr. Hui! Hah, you have to get up early in the morning to catch me.

Just kidding 😉, but I heard that having a bigger buffer helps improve the quality of audio recording, or something...

Also, if what you say is true. What about the: CyberLink CD-RW, 32x/12x/48x

It has Exaclink, nice and cheap, but it only had a 2mb buffer (the reason why I had been ignoring it).

A 2MB buffer is good, but only for a 12x drive.

On any recent, decent system, 4MB should be enough for most demanding situations.

The size of the buffer has nothing to do with recording quality.

What does me recommending LG have to do with boosting the Korean economy? LG makes good products, so does Mitsumi. I simply weighed up the options, and came down on the side of LG.

I prefer Plextor drives myself.

"...it is the combination between the Buffer-Underrun-Protection-System ExacLink and the 16 Mbytes cache which is truly outstanding. This combination makes CD writing extremely reliable, as it avoids the burning process being interrupted which would result in the process being aborted. Audio freaks benefit enormously from the large cache. It is critical for high-quality music productions that every track or the entire CD is "lasered" without interruptions. This is only possible with a very generous cache, such as the cache provided by the new writer."

Something to chew on.

And, to quote myself:

<< Just Kidding >>

I was playfully insinuating that you had an alterior motive for recommending the LG drive, on the basis of you having a Korean sounding name <phew>. I'm sorry, friends?

I'm Chinese, not Korean. Hui is a common Chinese surname. No offense taken.

That quote is a load of marketing crap.

Current versions of the laser continuation technology, certainly for Sanyo's BurnProof and Ricoh's Justlink, leave effectively no gap on resumption of recording.
