might be a power supply problem
or the RAM/card is defective

but i tend to think this is a PS problem

try increasing the AGP voltage to 3.5v

The +3.3 is already at ~3.4, since ASUS always puts the default there. So that shouldn't be the problem. I remember reading about someone else having the same problem a while ago, but I can't remember what he did.

Sorry to say, your card is defective.

You should call Asus up for a replacement board. There should be a warning about this problem in your owners documentation(there is in most of the different GF's).

Are you sure? It doesn't happen everytime. Is this a known problem?

EDIT: I read about the problem in the Geforce FAQ, it suggests the PSU, the FSB (100 Mhz, not likely) or that the card is defective. Thing is, my system is absolutely stable. I haven't had one crash since I put it together. I don't know what to think really.

Q. I (occasionally or always) get less than 32MB of video RAM reported when I first switch on my PC. What's up?
Try slightly changing your FSB speed.

Make sure that you are using a powerful enough power supply. See the 'How powerful should my power supply be in order to use the GeForce? question for more information.

If you have a Creative card, contact Creative and they will supply you with an updated Video BIOS that may fix this problem. You can also find a link to download the updated BIOS in the 'Are there any newer Video BIOS upgrades for the Annihilator?' question.

You may want to replace the card even if this does help: this problem may also be a bad solder joint on one of the memory chips that causes problems occasionally or all the time.

either card is screwed or power supply is not enough
250w isnt enough for 2HDD + 1CDRW + 1CDROM + G256DDR

"Are you sure? It doesn't happen everytime."

There was a very clearly marked portion of troubleshooting in the Herc manual(and mentioned in others) that dealt exactly with this issue. It didn't say anything about fixing it, it said simply to return the board for replacement.

More then likely, it is one of the issues that X2K brought up, and your board should be replaced. Odds are that it will run perfectly fine for a while, but the condition will only get worse, not better. The board may last you for the entire time you find it useful, but it will likely die prematurely because of whatever the problem is.

My board should be replaced

You mean the gfx card, right? Not the motherboard.

TTT.

I e-mailed the place where I bought the card and they said all I needed was a new BIOS for it. Does this sound right?
