16-Bit Game on Vista 64-bit

Hey everyone, having an issue with an old game. I have a copy of Final Fantasy 7 for PC that I've been trying to install on my Gateway P-6860FX running Vista home premium 64-bit. Now I've looked at other forums about installing the game on vista 64 bit and its supposedly possible. But I ran into a problem that is apparently unique to me, and couldn't find a solution.

When i run the setup, the progress circle (hourglass) goes for about 10 seconds, then nothing happens. If i open up the task manager, i can see a 32bit setup launcher running, as many instances as i had opened. I've tried running as administrator, and running in compatibility mode with windows 98, and windows xp sp2, but to no avail. Any suggestions on how to get this installer up?

Thanks!

Is the game 16 bit along with the installer or just the installer? Might try installing the game on another machine and copy the installed directory to the vista box (or use virtual PC). Most games I have come across can move around without any registry fuss.

not sure honestly, the installer is 32-bit, i guess the game may be 32-bit as well. I tried that though but to no avail... any other suggestions?

It did. But some older games while being 32 bit use 16 bit installers. So although the game should run... getting it installed is the tricky part.

Sorry OP, not sure what else.. but at least this will get bumped.
