Normally I tend to ignore most first text book chapters but I started reading this one and it managed to keep my interest. The textbook is "Computer Organization & Design, 2nd Edition" by Patterson and Hennessy (ok, it is actually copyright in 1998 but in the first chapter he mentions that it is 1997). One thing that caught my attention was that while talking about hard drives he mentions that speeds "rotate on a spindle at 5400 to 15,000 revolutions per minute". Where there 15k drives in 1997? I know that the cheetah 15k just came out recently and got a bunch of press of being the first to reach that speed. I guess I was just curious if this author was just getting a little ahead of himself or if there were actual drives at 15k in 1997?
Thanks,

P.S. Sorry if you find this thread topic kinda dumb. I am a little bored this morning
