LCDs are LCDs. they are measured the same way. not all laptop screens are 15".

a 19" lcd on a laptop would look rediculous and completely defeats the purpose of a laptop. i don't even like the widescreen laptops that are out.

I've had a couple of 17" CRTs, and all of them were 16" viewable (well, one was 15.9").

I don't know if they make 15" widescreen monitors or not, but if so, that would make a difference in comparing it to a 17" CRT.

If you are in the market for a LCD monitor and/or a laptop, stop in Circuit City and look around, see what meets your needs (size wise only, I'm not saying they will be able to sell you the best monitor for the best price.)
