Im a fan of Nvidia and would like to stick with them but Im overhauling my system and the video card is gonna be the casualty till i get the extra $$. Best Im seeing for $150 or less is a X800GTO. Can you gimme any reasons why not? I dont want a 6600GT I already had one, just want something new to tinker with and reasonably good performance.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 9NDA3J is a NF3 Ultra board so you're looking for an AGP card?

So will you be getting a new mobo with pci-e? If you're sticking with agp for now I'd have to say the X800GTO would be fine.

which one is better?

There really is no contest. Even at stock and not modded a X800GTO beats a 6600GT in pretty much every benchmarks, especially if you crank up the AA/AF. And if you get one that can unlock (i.e. Connect3D) it will crush the 6600GT . . .

i'm guessing $150 is your max? if so then yeah, it's probably the best choice. but if you're able to stretch it a little more, the x800gto2 is now on newegg for only $180 after rebates.

Is the GTO2 really that good? Im thinking with a OC GTO that I can crank it up pretty good and not lose toooo much from my 6800GT. Blowing my budget out of the water with Opty 165 and full tower so the vid card will be a cheapy till I get some more cash.

Yeah it seems that Connect3D no longer uses cores that are unlockable (i.e. laser cut) . . . but for $150 they are still quite overclockable . . . and yeah the GTO2s are pretty much 100% unlockable (R480 VIVO = unlockable) and for $180 they may be the better deal . . .

From what Im reading right now. With this GTO2 I have a reasonably good chance of unlocking and overclocking to X850XT PE speeds and ending up with a better card than my 6800GT?

well, asside doom 3 and some other opengl games, the x800gto2 unlocked and overclocked should beat even the 6800 ultra.

Well you guys talked me into it and its all ordered, I just posted a list of the components in the General Hardware. Ill be overjoyed if the GTO2 spanks my XFX 6800GT (which cant OC for crap). I really have high hopes of this keeping me content for the next year or 2, tired of the constant tinkering but I know ill get the urge again.

yeah...you'll definately get that urge again. don't forget to try and sell off some of your old stuff to offset going over the budget.

I'm [retty happy with my X800GTO2. I unlocked the extra 4 pipes without any issues. That provided a nice speed boost. It can overclock to X850XT PE speeds, but I have to turn the fan speed up a little bit. If I overclock to just X850XT speeds, then I can run the fan at normal speed. I'm using the TRIXX overclocking utility that came with my card to overclock it. Its a very fast card, and a great deal even when I paid $207 for it.

Yeah I had to bite on $219 then a $20 MIR. Hate rebates but sometimes its the best way to go. Although I know nothing about ATI cards so I guess it will be a learning experience unlocking it and OC.
