I have a budget of around 150-170 and I need two things; PSU and a better CPU.

System specs:
mobo: AM3 http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3257#sp
cpu: Athlon II X2 240 OC 3.5Ghz
gpu: GTX 460 1gb
ram: 8GB DDR3

What i usually do is basically gaming, web surfing. Games like GW2 where i get only 5-10FPS when there are a lot of people on screen and also Minecraft where I have shaders and play 'Feed the Beast' that seems to be very CPU incentive and I get only 15FPS with enhanced shaders on and optifine ect.

I have a general idea of what I need but I am hoping I can get more options before i spend the $. I just need a better CPU and my PSU is in dire need of at least 450w+ or whatever you guys think is enough to power the above hardware. Again budget is 150-170

Thanks!

960T or try and find a "cheap" 6core.

For power supply pretty much any name brand 450w+ 80%+ should be fine. Look at newegg for rebates on good 80%+ ones and go from there.

Newegg only has one deneb core left:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103727

That is definitely the one you want. You might get 3.6-3.7GHz out of it. If you went with a 6 core chances are you might only get 3.2 and that would leave you severely bottlenecked. At least here you are guaranteed 3.4GHz.

This psu has a rebate and a promo code right now so its a good deal on a good rated psu. I'm getting one myself as it happens lol.

Dont worry about the reduction in clock speed if you end up not overclocking. The phenom is a much faster gaming cpu compared to the athlon, even if the game only uses one thread.

Thanks for the links. Yeah been staring at that deneb for a few months now. Thanks for that PSU link, that looks much better than the Roswill i was looking at. I think its time to finally press checkout button lol Thanks all!

Jimzz, Looked at that 960T but it seems a little low in thread speed, even if I OC it.:/

Go with this power supply instead:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371031

Antec NEO ECO 620C 620W Continuous Power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply

It has a strong 48Amp 12V single line instead of the dual line of the thermaltake. It also has much higher efficiency than the 500Watt Thermaltake.

And it's only $29 after rebate for a power supply that regularly goes for $69!
