story

Authorities say a suspected carjacker led officers on a high-speed chase on Southern California freeways for nearly 150 miles before being stopped near the Mexican border.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials said the pursuit began Thursday night in Willowbrook. Deputies spotted someone driving recklessly in a Lincoln Navigator that was reported stolen the day before. Sgt. Richard Pena said the driver got into a crash, got out of the vehicle and carjacked a pickup truck in the parking lot of a shopping center.

The driver then sped up to 90 mph on several freeways, dangerously swerving across traffic lanes. He was heading toward the border when a patrol car struck the truck's rear bumper. The fleeing vehicle spun to a halt.

Seems strange the police didn't do that maneuver about 140 miles sooner.

Probably waiting for clearance to stop a fleeing criminal. That kind of thing happens today because America is weak and foolish. Everyone knows this.

Cops today don't deter or interdict crime they observe and record for the most part as ACLU and ambulance chasers have relegated them to Nancy boys.

Am surprised he wasn't stopped earlier as well. I mean, what's the top speed of that pickup? 115 mph? That cop car could easily outrun him. In the process of waiting 150 miles to stop him they probably put hundreds of lives in danger.

That would have been quite a spectacular crash to kill hundreds of people from just one speeding pickup!

This is the result of years and years of lawsuits against the police department for doing their jobs. The foolish population of this country would rather sue and make money, than allow criminals to be captured. This is the America of today. An America defined by fools. Everyone knows this.

I think the driver was just waiting for a sufficiently high embankment which he could launch himself 30' into the air with. (too lazy to find link to earlier thread where this happened)

Don't their helicopters have guns? Couldn't they have just blown the car to pieces? What a waste of government resources.

I don't know man, maybe they just don't show the ones where they do get away?

I've heard two stories of the guy getting away.
One was a 13yr old in an M3, the other was a geo metro. :awe:

You're just making shit up. Police have been recklessly pursuing minor criminals putting citizens at risk for years. This is America today, a police state supported by morons like you.

They have shown them, I clearly remember watching 3 chases where they ended with the suspect bolting out of the car and escaping. One went into a river embankment with a shit ton of trees, the follow up the next day was he still hadn't been apprehended. I'll assume they never did catch him because the news never reported it. I don't remember the exacts details for the other 2, but same outcome. No follow up except "suspect still at large" If a person's dumb enough to run, but can get away clean when there are dozens of officers in cars with police & news shoppers also following it. Good for them, because that's a fucking amazing task for sure. Sure it's a 1:10,000 chance. But that's far better odds than playing the Lotto, or even most gambling in Vegas. But, if they get caught, which is 99.9% likely, well they're gonna get their ass beat.

You don't know what a real police state is. That is the problem with fools like you. You know nothing about the rest of the world, which is why you have such foolish fantasies about how things should be. I would tell you to travel, but I doubt you would be able to survive out there for very long. Everyone knows this.

Police state?

Uh, no. Not by a long shot.

Sobriety checkpoints? check
Govt reading emails? check
red light cameras? check
police radar? check
police airplanes? check
drug testing? check
wiretapping? check

Nothing to worry your little head over. The land of the free.

No, it is you, marincounty, who is the idiot. Your posts confirm your vast stupidity. Your entire belief system is based on foolishness. Reading your posts is like watching a three legged dog try to run -- it is both hilarious and pathetic at the same time. Everyone knows this.

So what was his plan when he got to the mexican border? Just blow through?

I'm sure that would have gone about as well as the chase did.. lol
