yeah, i know this question comes up a lot, but i need help, and you guys helped me when i wanted to upgrade my system last time, and the advice was very useful.

i have 150-200$ to burn and i want to upgrade my video card. I currently have a geforce 2 pro, and to state the obvious, it doesn't cut it. i want to get a video card that will last me a while, that will handle games like UT2k4, Everquest 2, Half-life 2, Doom 3 and the like. I've been looking all over on newegg.com reading the various reviews, and being that my knowledge of computer hardware is practically non-existant i didn't know what to conclude. So i ask of you all, what card should i get?!

Thanks in advance.

If you could stretch your budget just a little then Newegg has the Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro for $214.
If you can wait a while there may be better buys this spring when the new round of video cards come out.

the new radeon will be out in april, so if you can hold out just a tad longer... then that would be the best time to buy.

i unfortunately had to upgrade to a 9800pro just a few days ago. i'm happy with the card, but i overpaid because the next gens aren't out yet.

people say that the 9800pro is a fast card, but it really isn't. while i can play most games at 1280x1024 with sufficient FPS... it's a different story when i enable AA and AF. NFS:U starts doing this thing where the frames "catch up" to the movement. i don't have this problem when i turn eye candy off.

i never cared about AA / AF until i got this card and started playing with it on. i didn't really notice a big difference with it on. then after a few days of gaming, i decided to turn eye candy off... and i couldn't go back. AA / AF rules.

my point? at the very minimum, get the 9800pro.

128mb radeon 9800pro sapphire=214$ oem and 229$ retail at newegg.com

128mb radeon 9800pro BBA = 199$ at compUSSR

you guys are probably right, i don't want to buy something now and then get pissed when the card i bought drops prices dramatically, so yeah, i guess i'll wait for spring :-/

If you can wait, you will find your options increase once the new nextgen cards from nVidia and ATI come out. Because that would mean a procedrop in their current flagship cards. Just wondering, what are the specs for the rest of your system?
