I'll stick with my GeForce2 GTS for now as in most tests, it's beating out the Kyro. Sure it has the advantage in a couple of things (Namely FSAA) but overall the GTS has been a great card for me.

Thanks for the link though!

Maybe their next gen card will be even more exciting :)

For the money nothing can beat it, and once some cheaper manufactures start producing the cards they will be priced the same as most Geforce MX cards. Add some overclocking and it should be a great card for bang for buck

If there's a HIGH end version of Kyro, then it's definitely the GeForce 2 KILLER.

Wonderful. I expect it has obsolescence built-in just like my current cards too.

It's a great card for the price, and the performance is not too shabby either. I would definitely consider this card before considering a $300+ card.

My question: How is the 2D of the card?

I'm willing to support Tile-Based-Rendering. Also, if it's not always faster.

Also another question is the drivers, how good are they in everyday gaming use?Anyway it`s a great card for the price.

Radeon also had a problem with Mercedes Benz truck racing in the beginning!
Kyro II may steal the thunder of Geforce3 in respect of practical sales. Geforce3= very high price, and not worth it for this year's games. KyroII= just what 3d needs and cheap!

Its really impressive..but as the Anandtech review mentions, it needs both good drivers, and a T&L engine.I assume those drivers used in the tests were alpha/beta or something similar..and would be updated when the card finally ships out.

I would think that the next generation of PowerVR chips would have T&L engines. If so, I'm pre-ordering this nextgen chip, if such a thing exists :p

Until then, I'm sticking to my GeForce2 MX.

Those benchmarks are impressive and I'm very pleased that bumping up the core clock speed had such a perfromance boost. I'm stunned that it beats a GF2 MX at 640 x 480 x 32 in Quake 3 and even more stunned at how it creams a 64 MB Radeon DDR in Quake 3.

If this thing had a T&L engine it could seriously compete with a GF3 and cost 1/3 the price. Now that's impressive. :)

It is great to see a new entry into the video card market! :)

As an entry level /budget card its preformance is quite impressive. :)

methinks I just found my next video card source :D This is really great for keeping nVidia honest here, if a $150 card can trump their $350 card (even if it is only on occasion) that's certainly something to worry about. What they're doing is certainly good for the comsumer, and perhaps in the future people will consider PowerVR in for the long haul with nVidia and ATI. It still IS a 3 way battle people :)

*itching to see their next gen card* :)

but seriously, if what IMGTEC said holds true and this is nothing but basically an overclock of the Kyro, then their engineers must have been doing something all this time.... :D If these guys can get together a DX8 card by the time the games start surfacing, then they sure have my money :)

I own a Kyro and I have previously had these cards:

Voodoo1
Voodoo2
Voodoo2 SLI
Geforce DDR
Voodoo5 5500
TNT2

and I can certainly say the drivers are great, I've had no more problems with the Kyro then with any of those other cards, the error the guy in the review got is already fixed in the driver he atually has, he just needs to enable the option that fixes the problem, AFAIK the drivers for the Kyro II are just the Kyro I drivers changed slighly for the Kyro II, after all the Kyro II is just a Kyro on a 0.18m process with a higher clock speed so there's no need for totally new driver, the last Kyro driver release actually got released accidentally with Kyro II entries in it so it looks like there using a unified driver for all Kyro products.

GeForce2-MX sucks compared to a Voodoo3. I've played them side by side and the MX just stutters constantly. I really don't care for its dark overcast on the picture, too. The gamma has to be cranked high on the MX to get a vivid picture.

Well, its alright. May make a good stepping stone from geforce1 to geforce3/beyond. I am getting tired of still having a geforce1, even though it still works nicely. Anyways, the best part of that review was the sexy blue PCB.

<< GeForce2-MX sucks compared to a Voodoo3. >>

I'd take the Geforce1 over the V3 :p
We had the "great debate" in college over these 2 cards and the winner was the Geforce1, under intense scrutiny.

I just paid $140 for a brand new GF2 GTS, but I'm not going to complain. The GF2 has proven what it can do... let's see what this Kyro II can do in the real world. I don't consider the microchosm that is Anand's testbed proof that the board will rule.

If it has Matrox and Ati-style 2D onboard, and consistently performs well for the end-user, then I might just sell my new GF2 GTS and hop on the bandwagon. My samsung 900NF is just itching to do 1600x1200 :).

We can only hope, my GeForce becomes a blurred blob above 1152x864... Id love to be using 1280x960. I have a old SiS 8MB in my server and it has much much better 2D image quality above 1024x768.

I was missing some overclock!
Well its has a 270 dac so its not usable for 1600x1200x32x85 powerusers!

Man, I have followed the PowerVR technology since I got a Matrox M3D a REALLY long time ago.... Their technology is great, but they have yet to deliver on time with a card that is competitive with the current and next generation offerings by nVidia and previously 3dfx. BUT, I have to say that this card looks very impressive if they can go ahead and get it out the door and get some other board manufacturers to build some cards based on this chip.... that will help to give the PowerVR peoples the $$$ they need to develop the good drivers that we all demand, plus... nVidia needs some healthy competition to keep them on their toes.

I am still running a TNT2 Ultra and have been itching to upgrade, but I may just wait a month to see if this makes it out of the gates and how it ends up doing as an officially released board.

For those of you expecting this version of the kyro with the bumped up clock speeds to edge out the gf2 and the gf2 ultra, it won't. It will be on par with the gf2. Also, there will be no t&l on the chip. The chip will only be 150 bucks and it is meant to compete with nvidias chips in the same price range. expect big performance from their next product after kyro II.

I think the problem with the Kryo 2 is the timing. The main thing is that this card performs ON PAR with the GF2. However, I don't think the difference between this and most of the current video cards warrants shelling out the money to move sideways (or a few steps forward) in terms of performance. By the same token, the Kyro 2 won't put a dent in GF3 sales. These two cards are geared at two TOTALLY different audiences. I think the card is damned impressive. The only problem I see is that everyone who is in the market for a 3d card already has a gf2/radeon and the improvement isn't enough.

I would definitely go out and grab a Kyro II if its available. Suggested retail price of $150 can easily go down to $100-120 and you get a 64 meg
card. I don't consider the problem with the M-benz game serious, I have seen similar problems with the Radeon and the Savage 4/2000 (with Need for Speed)which was easily solved. It seems like the Kyro has the best price/performance ratio.
