15 Windows timesavers/shortcuts

Here is a quick summary of the article if people are lazy 🙂
There is two that I did not add, which is add desktop or address bar to taskbar
and some search options which did not seem like a "timesaver"

1) Launch Taskbar programs by pressing Winkey+#, where # is the location of the icon right from the start button
2) Launch more instances of the same program by holding shift and click on icon.
3) Copy as Path - hold shift and right click on file
4) Hold Shift and right click for more Sent To options
5) Customize Sent To locations - Start - Run - shell:sendto
6) CTRL+Z Undo/Undelete from recycle bin, CTRL+C Copy ,CRTL+V paste
7) Multiselect with Checkboxes -
Win7 - Folder Options -> View - > Use check boxes to select items
Win8 - View Tab in ribbon -> Item Check Boxes, also in the same location as win7
8) Aero Snap with keyboard - Winkey+ Up or Left or Right arrow, with current active window
9) Right click on Taskbar Icon to pin items to JumpList
10) Increase JumpList items - Right-click taskbar -> Properies -> Jumplist Tab

I also just now somehow discovered the Problem Steps Recorder, which seems like it could be very useful!

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/How-do-I-use-Problem-Steps-Recorder

Problem Step Recorder. - Been there since Win7 and its still there in Win8/8.1
but frankly I have never really used it as most of my support is done trough a remote program.
The only down side to it is, the end user has to be somewhat computer friendly.
Now I am not saying that to be mean/bad but you have to explain to them to go to start -> run - type PSR -> press ok.
Click on start
try to replicate the issue
could add comment at that point with the add comment button
once error has happened / done click on stop recording
click on save.
select where to save it
save it
open email
attach to email

I know some users that some times have difficulty with some of this, through no fault of their own, they are just not computer friendly

They missed an important shortcut for tip #2 (page 3): middle-clicking on a taskbar item launches a new instance without having to use the other hand to hold down Shift.

(Middle-clicking, in general, is one of those really useful things--particularly in browsers--that most people sadly don't know about.)

Indeed code65536.

And while we're at it, middle clicking a link on the web will open it on a new window.

I pity the souls who go through the web without knowing this.

Also, CTRL+F will let you search for words. I've encountered people who didn't know about this, and I pity them even more.

Last time I had a mouse with a middle-click was in the early 90s. Then it was all trackball, trackpoint, trackpad. Can you middle-click on a touch screen?

Virtually all modern mice have a middle-click: Click the scroll wheel.

For touchpads, many Alps touchpads are configured by default to treat left+right at the same time as a middle click (at least, that's the default setting for the Linux driver and the Windows Dell driver; not sure about others). Synaptics touchpads don't support middle click by default, but most can be configured to do so. (I configure a touch zone where taps in a particular corner are interpreted as middle clicks.) There are some touchpads that don't have a way to do a middle click. Those are all heresies that I hate with a fiery passion. 😛

And... touchscreens are crap. 😛 You don't even have a good way to do a right-click (you can long-press and in many contexts, that's treated as right... what a pain! but, seriously, if you're using a touchscreen, you've got way bigger power-user usability challenges than the lack of a middle click).

Also for browsers there is ctrl+Lclick to open in new tab (Which I abuse a lot) and shift+Lclick to open in new browser.
ctrl+wheel = zoom in and out

just thought I throw that in there for those that don't know,, Not that you pros don't of course.

Dude, doesn't your mouse have a scrollwheel?! õ_Ô That's your middle click right there.

Also, no, you can't middle-click on a touch screen, that's one of the many reasons touch screens are lame.
