I'm starting to read some books, but was curios about a fileserver, I want to have a server based network (I get to be SysAdmin
), and i was wondering what's a good operating system to use for that. I have Win2K Pro and WinNT4, but I'm sure I could get Win2K server if that would be better.
For a server, is there any problem with roughly a kt7a-raid with like a T-bird800, 256MB ram? There will probably be a bit of gaming going on.
For the connections, I guess Switches rather than hubs are the way to go. now the max length on UTP is 100m I believe, what's the furthest distance a computer can be from the computer by way of User--->switch---->switch---->server, how far away?
THanks!
Dave
