15-Pin and LCDs

Ok, here is my dilemma:

I have an eVGA 6800GT that has 1 DVI and 1 15-pin port. I am currently using a 21" Sony Trinitron Monitor.

My plan is to move to 2 19" LCD monitors because I need the extra desktop space for working. I have heard that using the VGA 15-Pin port on the graphics card will result in poor image quality.

My question is: How poor is the quality, and is there any way around this without replacing my video card?

Just testing the waters to see what my options are. Thanks for your time and comments.

Ps- If the answer is no, anyone have a 6800GT with 2x DVI ports they want to exchange ;)

I'd say the image quality would more depend on the quality of the monitor, I use my Samsung 173v /w a 15-Pin VGA port and get very good image quality with that.

Thankyou for your reply :) Since you are actually using a setup like this I have a few quesitons you may be able to assist me with :)

"very good image quality" = ?

I do not care about ghosting too much (if I game I would do it on the LCD using the DVI), but color accuracy, decent contrast, and no blurring would be important since I will be using it with Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash, and Fireworks.

How would you say the D-Sub 15-Pin on the LCD compares to a CRT with a similar static image? e.g. In a program like PhotoShop or a Macromedia product.

The main thing is the the monitor produces a nice sharp image(no blurring at all), I noticed on my brother's Benq LCD that the text was a little blurry, we both use the same 15 pin connector, same size panel (17") and same resolution (1280*1024).

Ghosting has never really been a problem for me, I play games like hl2, doom3, ut2k4 and haven't really noticed any ghosting.

The color accuracy is pretty much perfect.

The contrast ratio is 450:1.

You'd still get a crisper image on a crt, you'd notice the difference between them but it's still pretty close.

What resolution are those 19" LCDs? If it's 1280x1024 you should be ok. If it's 1600x1200 you might get some blur with analog 15-pin VGA.

The quality depends on two factors: how clean of an analog signal the video card produces, and how well the monitor can adapt to an analog video signal. Both factors are equally important, its one of those "weakest link" situations.

Just make sure your LCDs have DVI ports, that way you'll be all set for when you upgrade your graphics card in the future.

Thanks for the info.

Hopefully it all works out... I guess the worse case scenario is I would need to sell/trade my 6800GT at a small loss.

Anyone else with experience with this issue who is willing to share their feedback or hints on better performance with using an LCD with a D-Sub 15-Pin cable feel free to post ;)
