15 page research paper due Tues 4pm

Tonight I am faced with the traditional college question:
What is a better investment of my time? To have fun now, and start my paper tomorrow, hoping I am more energized from a night of fun?
Or to start now, and just get the dang thing done, in order to encourage discipline

Going out and having fun, would probably entail me finding a couple friends and seeing if they wanted to hit up the bars, or check out a club. I could wake up tomorrow more energetic and wanting to work, but I would lose tonight, and my focus wouldnt begin til tomorrow.

If I worked on my paper tonight, that would establish a pattern of discipline, although I might not be as energized while doing it.

The paper could take awhile, most students tell me it takes them 3 full days to write it (those who've taken this class before) The paper needs at least 15-20 sources. I dont have much going on between now and Tues, just a few hours of class.

Up to this point, I've had a rather boring weekend.

But this gets down to the age old college question: which is more conducive to studying: Playing first, and then buckling down to study? Or get at it right away, and continuing to study?

You got tomorrow and monday to write the paper, besides how good of a paper are you going to write at midnight anyways?

If it isn't a pre-planned party then it probably isn't a garenteed good time out. I would study and party hard next weekend.

(I'm also a university student if that means anything)

QFT

I find that if I'm not in the mood to do homework then its not gonna get done. Just go out tonight so tomorrow you can concentrate on the paper.

whatever you decide, i hope you get whatever you deserve back from your input.

NB: that is not a dig, it is genuine. If you go out partying i hope it is a great time. if you study, i hope it is a great paper. but... if you go out, and dont get a good grade on your paper, you know you will deserve it right?

Having said that, here is a question... do you think you will have more enjoyment partying with a clear conscience, knowning your work is done?

i have a harder time having fun, knowing that my paper hasnt even been started yet. folks tell me not to let it bother me, but it does.

usually i am never in the mood to do homework until a few hours before its due. but unfortuantely that strategy of putting it off that long doesnt work on 15 page research papers!!

that is actually a good thing. it is a respectable quality.

so, just get the paper out of the way and then you can party... knowing you've EARNED it.

🙂

and everyone has to reap the consequences of their actions. 🙁

well, I started the research on sunday working all day on that. (i tried starting before that but i couldnt get myself motivated)
worked all day monday on writing the paper, and into tuesday.

I finished with an hour to spare, not really giving much time to proofread, so i decided to turn it in late for a 5% deduction, figuring that would be less taken away that turning in a paper with errors.

it feels good to be done, but at the same time i know i probably could have done a much better job (had i started sooner)

Yea I find that it has been hard to teach myself discipline...I am in favor of partying over a paper anyday, but karenmarie said it best.

So what did you decide? How did the paper go?

The topic of the paper was "male and female issues in the biblical perspective, particularly relating to the passage 1 Corinthians 11:2-16"

that night i didnt party, i just sat around 🙁

The paper went okay, just not as good as it coulda had i put in more time.
