15" EIZO NANAO LCD vs. 19" DynaFlat Samsung 955DF (with a blemish on the screen)

I mainly use the computer to watch TV, and surf. I do audio/video stuff as well. My question is, which would you rather have, and why? I don't think I can retire my 19" for the 15" LCD, but thought I could use more input on the subject......I have someone who will buy my 19" for the same price that it would take me to buy the 15" LCD, so I'm not spending any of my own money......basically it would be a trade......

Any help is appreciated!!!

If you have enough desk space, go with the 19" CRT.

I love my Dell P991 (FD Trinitron) CRT monitor, I would only upgrade to an LCD if it were 17.4" or larger.

Plus does your current video card have DVI?

if you ever need to take your monitor places, like lan parties, id go with the lcd. The LCD also uses alot less power and is easier on your eyes... if none of this matters to you id get the CRT.

That's correct. The 15" LCD is quite a small monitor. Go for the 19" flat screen CRT if you can. Within a few years, 19" LCDs should be priced at a reasonable level.

This is the monitor I'm using now. I had a 17inch (~16.5 actual screen size) KDS monitor before that and had the option to move to a 19 inch or this 17'' LCD. I chose the LCD cause the picture quality was soo amazing compared to the 19inchers I've seen. Plus, I only paid 300 bucks $CAD so I aint complaining. ;) On top of that it can support a standard VGA or a DVI connection.

Unfortunately, it doesn't......

Oh, and the LCD would be mounted to the wall....so the coolness factor is there, for watching TV...and surfing....but, it is still a 15".....I don't take it to LAN parties, either.

Thanks for the thoughts though!!

19" CRT. I tried the LCD's for a while. I cant justify spending $700 on an 18". For that price you can get 2 19" CRT's.

I wouldn't ditch my 19" CRT (18 inches viewable) until I can easily afford a 18-19 inch LCD. I won't ever go smaller, especially if the computer doubles as a TV/DVD player.

EDIT: Back when I bought my 19", it was $550 and I considered that I would use it for as long as it still works, hopefully 7-10 years. It's only been 3 or so years so far, so that probably has something to do with my attachment to my CRT.

your current monitor isn't really a truely "flat screen"
pick up a GOOD 19" like the SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER 900NF. use the BNC connectors on it for an additional quality boost ;)

LCD/TFT screens still suck in terms of picture quality, if it weren't for their small footprint there would be no value to them at all. I'll be sticking with a good quality CRT (but not one with a small blemish) until flat panels get beyond that funky pixelated/mosaic look to them.

Oh, wow, I just noticed you're talking about going from a 19" to a 15", I thought you were just going from CRT to LCD. Yikes!

Dude you are never gonna comfortably go to a 15" screen after using a 19" for so long.

Definitely the 19" CRT.

After years on a 15" CRT, I love my NEC FE950+. I've only had it for ~6 months & I'm already trying to justify upgrading to a 21/22" that will do 1600x1200 @ 85 hz.

20" viewable is a good thing.

I would like to add: IMHO, my 19" CRT is worth its weight in gold.

Thats quite a bit considering its about 85 pounds.

The only reason i replaced my 19" CRT (18.1" veiwable) is because I got a 18.1" viewable LCD.

I bought it off of my sisters BF at a great discount. :D

not if you run them at their default resolution with a dvi interface!

Cheap LCD screens still suck, but the good (ie expensive) ones are very nice.

Still cannot match a good flat screen CRT. They're getting there, but they're not there yet.
