Picked up a 15R Special Edition the other day for $685 shipped. Not bad for an Ivy Bridge quad core, 8GB RAM, 1080p 15.6" screen, AMD 7730M GPU, and 750GB 7200RPM hard drive.

There are a few XPS 8300 units available now, but you are right: there are not many performance desktops available. Note that the webpage has other tabs with additional selections: Everyday Computing, Gaming, and Space Saving.

A contributing factor is other shoppers placing multiple systems in their carts to review specifications. Computers often reappear when shoppers empty their carts without buying.

It's 30% for the Alienware laptops. Tried it last night in outlet. I don't have the coupon code but it is advertised on Dell's website when going to outlet. There weren't a great selection of the M17xR2's so I skipped on buying another one.

They have the 14's, not the 11's available in outlet. If it's not 17" then I like to go powerful and yet still be lightweight. For the 17" I don't mind the weight as I use it for my daily walk/hike routine on business trips.

There was a 24" LCD 1900x1200 last night but it may have been bought out already. Was around $270 I think. I couldn't find a coupon for LCD's so I didn't order it.
 
They are finally trying to clear our some of the really old stuff. I would staty away from these. They are probably warranty return rebuilds.
