I'm behind some pretty heavy software/hardware support, so I only get like a few intrusions a month, if any.

Like someone said earlier, it's better to not receive anything about intrusions if most of it are false alarms, or if they're succesfully blocked, they don't need to be reported. For someone who knows nothing, leave the reporting at nothing.

Not really. Reporting nothing is better than reporting everything when the person watching the reports knows nothing. ;)

Wow....just wow.

Would you like to say something useful about my comment?

Sure! Most people aren't as dumb as you make them out to be. Many people are even willing to learn things.

Lets imagine a world where nothing gets reported by a firewall. If something doesn't work, oh well. Kind of difficult to troubleshoot when you don't have a report on what's happening. Help file can go away. What are you going to ask it? Oh that's right...no report from the program again. Online support would be a joke also. If you don't have a report on what's happening it's very difficult to troubleshoot a problem.

I understand what you're trying to say, I just don't agree with it.

No, most people are blissfully ignorant. They see 14000 alarms and freak out posting a stupid thread somewhere without understanding a bit of what is going on. Let them be happy, don't show them anything. Put a switch somewhere to show the logs for people that know what they are doing, are interested in learning, or need to try and troubleshoot something.

*Ok,... back away slowly.*

I never "freaked out", I just asked a question and wanted to know how many you guys get in that time frame to know if it was normal. And as far as not wanting to learn anything, when did I say or imply that? Looks like you have a pretty deep schema of people asking questions.

I didn't imply that you didn't want to learn anything, but you gave no indication of understanding what was truly happening.

Why are you trying to pick a fight n0c? I'm at a loss on why you're calling the forum posters stupid. Some are just like you and I trying to get a little help on something they've never encountered before.

The general ignorance keeps me employed too, but I hold them in higher regards obviously. Just because I can fix their computer problem they can't do themselves doesn't mean I'm smarter or better. In fact, it's refreshing when the person I helped a computer problem with returns with some help or knowledge I need. Like helping a drywaller with a computer problem and in turns he helps you get some professional looking patches around the networking job in our house. It's a good thing I didn't call that drywaller stupid because I don't know anything about drywalling. :D

I said nothing about them being stupid, just ignorant.

I always thought ZoneAlarm was ultra senseitive and reported alot of false positives and minor things to make it seem like your PC is in danger and it's doing an awesome job protecting it so you must be more likely to purchase the full version for the extra extra sense of protection.
