Ehh, I think we are going to do like 3 months.

Most people already know we are getting married and when. So, it's really a formality

2 months. give 'em a month to respond and then you have a month to notify your caterer of the exact amount of people attending.

3-4 months is good. Sending an invitation 1 month in advance means that you don't really want them to attend, but are going through the montions to be polite.

go to http://www.theknot.com for all good info... that's what we used... the forums are pretty active too.

Anyway, 2 months is about avg... bear in mind some people simply won't send it back (even if they are coming)... you have to hound them during the last week. It's just the way it goes... others I've asked agree that this happened to them too. :| Also bear in mind that if you have people coming from far away (they need to book flights), then the earlier the better.

Imagine it depends greatly on how far your average guest plans to travel. Recall invitations for my wedding were mailed out approximately 6 to 7 months ahead of time; but we had a large (750+) guest list - many from out of town.

A few of these links may prove useful. Also, date cards mailed early with "invitation to follow" verbage are also popular.

I would send them out and then get married before they got them, because I'm a cruel bastard. Not that I would ever get married or anything, and if I did I wouldn't have anyone to invite.

My fiance and I are sure we'll be married before the end of the year, but exactly when we can't say. Is 9 months, 6 months, 3 months, 1 month, etc. advance notice appropriate?

Oh dear Dezign, Dezign, please leave room for a change of mind. You're going a little too fast! You may be the perfect match at the end, but it doesn't hurt to take it easy and realize this after careful....

Good luck to you two, nonetheless. 🙂

Most invitations i have recieved have been 6-12 months in advance, more is always better. But i have recieved as liitle as 2 months before the wedding.

whoa! 6-12 months is waaaay to far. like others said, 2 months for a "normal" wedding is good. if you are not sure but want to remind people, send Save-The-Date cards.

Personally, since we are doing it a bit differently (getting married in Hawaii from MI) we sent our save the dates about a year in advance then we are sending our invites in april for our june 2 wedding.

Dezign, have you checking out The Knot ?
it is a great site with TONS of helpful info and some cool msg boards!
