$145 Traffic Ticket

I got a $145 ticket for having a busted headlight... does this seem unreasonable to anyone? It'll probably cost me more to pay the ticket than to repair the damn thing. Is there any way I can get it lowered?

Can't you get the ticket waived if you prove you repaired it? Then you only have to pay court costs.

You actually got a full-on ticket for a headlight out? Fix-it tickets are more common for that here...a full citation would only be $31 for it, too.

So what can I do about it? I was passing through a county in the middle of Georgia, is there grounds for discimination due to the fact that I was not a county resident?

Meh, I got tagged the other day going 53 in a 40, my fine will be (according to the back of the ticket) $162.

He wrote the ticket for 50 in a 40 claiming that it would not go on my driving record.

And for the record:

Yes I was speeding, yes I am guilty. I plan on paying the fine and going on my merry way.

The only defense I have is that the speed limit in the area was 50 in the past. There has been some commercial development in a relatively rural area, and of course without informing me 😛 they lowered the speed limit to 40. All surrounding roads in the area are 50 or 55 MPH.

Yeah, I love that. Even if there WAS a county somewhere where the cops only gave tickets to non-residents (how would they know?), there's not a chance it could be proven in court.

Whenever I hear that someone filed a suit, claimed discrimination, or cried racism, my respect for that person goes straight into the sewer, and won't come back up until it is given overwhelming evidence that it was a justified move.

I DETEST frivolous lawsuits. Death is too good for those who file them. "Discrimination" isn't quite as bad IMHO, because it's less likely to create permanent effects in the lawbooks.

Does seem a bit high & I'd bet your correct about being singled out for the ticket because you arn't a local, however I also think its a waste of your time to fight it... might as well suck it up. 🙁

that cop is an ass... usually they write you a warning that turns into a ticket if you dont have it fixed within 24 hours...

go to court. tell them you were on a trip and it just burnt out...
have a reciept with proof that you had it fixed.

If it's some little Po DUnk town, then there's nothing you can do about it. That's how they fund 90% of their town is by ticketing people who drive through it.

DId you know the headlight was bad? If so, why didn't you fix it when it happened?

I got pulled over for having a headlight out a few weeks ago but I had the replacement bulb in the car with me because I had just bought it. They let me go when I showed it to them and I went home and popped it in.
