its the ASRock K8VM890 bearing the VIA K8M890 on-board graphics chip. it can go up to 256MB shared and although im almost 100% sure the memory doesnt make a diff i will do what it takes to get my resolution working on this new computer i set up. it has 1920x1200 in the Display Settings which is a 16:10 res, so i dont know why it doesnt have my 1440x900.

the comp is Sempron 2800+ (@1.8GHz just straight up to 225 with the speed havnt tried more yet sotck cooling stock voltage), WD 80GB hard drive slave and maxtor 20GB master, DVD-RW LG black, and thats it the rest is on the mobo.

here is a link to the mobo site: http://www.asrock.com/Product/K8VM890.htm

help pleasee!!!

Just a shot in the dark. Your MB manual says it defaults the aperture size to 64 Mb. Try setting it to 128 Mb in the bios. Good luck 🙂

If everything is set up right in the bios and 1440X900 isn't available in your screen resolutions slider bar, then that on board graphic chip may not support it...You may need to put in a PCIe video card that will support it.

Go to display propriety, settings tab, advance, monitor tab, make sure the checkbox "hide modes that the monitor cannot display" is cleared. If that doesn't help, you either need to find a tweak/hack (driver?, maybe bios update I donno), or buy a discrete graphic card.

/edit

and make sure you are using the latest display drivers

This is a common complaint with integrated S3/VIA UniChrome graphics and now seems to affect the newer K8M890 IGP as well. As usual, VIA has been utterly silent on this matter over at VIA Forums, but here is what SiS says about getting 1440x900 on SiS IGP:
Q. Why my SiS Integrated Graphics can not support 1440x900 resolution?

A. If your SiS integrated graphic (SiS650, SiS661, SiS740, SiS741, and SiS760 series) can not support 19" WXGA for 1440x900 resolution, you may check some information below:

1. Update the latest driver, you may download from Download Center.
2. Check your VBIOS version, go to "Control Pannel"->"Display"->"Settings"->"Advanced"->"Administrator"->"Pr
duct information", and you can see the VBIOS information, please check if it is updated to 2.28.00 or later.
3. If your VBIOS version is not 2.28.00 or later, you have to update your BIOS, please contact your board maker or system provider to get BIOS update support
Numerous persons have tried the latest S3/VIA drivers to no avail, so it is reasonable to assume the video BIOS must enable support for this resolution (as with SIS integrated graphics). The video BIOS is provided by the system (motherboard) BIOS.

Contact ASRock support, explain the problem, and politely request an updated video BIOS.

I don't remember anymore, but there was a program written that was meant for the VIA EPIA boards that would allow you to set almost any resolution you wanted. The two boards use essentially the same graphics chip.
