1440p w/o AA vs 1080p w/4xAA (performance difference?)

I am contemplating buying a 1440p monitor but I have some worries. I've been reading that with 1440p you don't really need AA for games. So with my rig will I be able to play games at the same settings at 1080p w/AA with 1440p w/o AA with similar fps numbers? If not, is the higher resolution enough to offset the potentially lower graphics settings I would have to use?

BTW this is the monitor I am looking at.

With your setup you should be fine. You won't be able to max out modern titles but they will look and play great. Just fine the right settings to pull 60fps and you're golden. AA with 1440p does look great but you take a pretty serious performance hit. BF3, BF4, Crysis 3, Batman Origins, all of them looked and played great on my OC 7970 @ 1440p. Once you play at higher resolutions you won't go back.

I love my new 1440. I went with one of those S. Korean models that use the Samsung panel.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9SIA3PC1705689 $340 +
$10 shipping from S.Korea. I paid $10 extra because I was in a hurry. Ordered Tue morning,
shipped from S.K. and had it Thur night. $20 total shipping. Supposedly if there is a problem, you
send it back to NE...and they handle it from there.

I love it, no dead pixels. I follow the forum writeup and overclocked it to 120 mhz. Color is good
out of the box on mine. I might play with the settings later.

I used the left over money for a cooler for the 290.

I have a Geforce 260; I was hitting 32fps with aa maxed out on 1920x1200 in Quake (running Darkplaces, with all the visual options maxed out), and when I went to 1440p, it turned into a slide-show. I turned off aa entirely, and my frame rate was 58fps at the lowest, but is usually over 130fps. At 1440p, you don't need aa.

I've received my monitor and have been using it for a few days. It seems to me that the extra resolution makes up for the lesser graphics in games. I see more of a difference outside of gaming though. All in all I think it was a good purchase. Just gives me more of an excuse to get a 290...when the custom coolers come out.
