1440p monitor recommendations

Been out touch with monitors for a while and I'm getting woefully out of date here.

Are there good 2560x1440p panels to be had for <500$?

Is g-sync something that's worth the extra premium to try to get now? 1440p/IPS/G-sync looks very expensive and choice is very limited, is this something to wait for?

Are you also planning to upgrade your graphics card? Do you play the newest games or old favorites?

The more info you provide, the better suggestions you'll get.

On one hand, you might benefit the most from a cheap Korean panel from eBay and use the savings to also upgrade your graphics card... but it's hard to know what you're really after.

I bought one of these to pair with my GTX 660. I've been very happy with mine. I was looking at 4k but honestly even though I can see a difference inbetween 1080p and 1440p, the difference between 1440p and 4k wasn't there.. so I just figured why should I pay more?

I've been happy with mine..

Yeah fair. I'm speccing out upgrade routes. Money isn't an issue really, just want to hit a sweet spot for what I spend.

Looking to pickup a cheap GTX 980 and hit max clocks for 1440p gaming. So if I can pair that with a decently priced 1440p monitor, that's one option. So question 1) 2560x1440p monitor that's <500$? <600$ if I have to go there, recommendations? example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...009626&cm_re=2560x1440-_-24-009-626-_-Product

Been looking at 1440p monitors and I see there's free-sync vs. g-sync. This demands a huge premium so question 2) is waiting for g-sync a thing? is buying now a poor idea? Is g-sync worth the wait?

@ Indus I have seen these QNix monitors from Korea and after reading a lot of Newegg reviews I am very skeptical. Seems like a high chance of getting a poor monitor and needing to RMA for *however long it takes* back to Korea.

That's a great deal, especially since you can use the gift card on future videocard. I have the Acer version which uses the same panel and I find the quality to be outstanding (coming from 30" IPS).

I'm really glad to hear that. As I frantically read through reviews during the lunch hour when the deal went hot, I quickly became convinced that it's one badass panel!!

I would 100% recommend a g-sync monitor if you do moderate to heavy gaming. However, for me an IPS panel is more important, even with the IPS glow. Unfortunately what you want "1440p/IPS/g-sync" is well above $500.
