Try High performance mode in windows. Are you using windows 10?

Something in overwatch was not set to epic, or scaling was not 1440p, but rather 1080p and you didn't notice. The scaling takes a huge amount of resources. 1080TI even with 960 pro, 7700k, and 32gb dual rank 3200 cl14 is incapable of maintaining above 144fps at 1440p with correct scaling and all epic settings even when cpu and graphics are OC to max. There will always be drops below 144. If you were getting steady 190 at 1440p before, something was set incorrectly. You might get 190 at MAX FPS, but not average or min. Average should break 144, managing about 155...but minimums will drop below 144 even with 1080TI. My guess is scaling was incorrect even though you had pure epic settings and you just didn't notice.

Minimum 1% with the setup I mentioned above is only 125-130fps. With max OC on that setup, it would reach around 135-140. You have 6700k, and did not mention OC or ram speed, but simply the amount of ram...your 1% minimum is probably around 120-125 if the ram is fast enough. If you have default ram speeds, that may reach closer to 115 minimum, possibly even 110.

Overwatch occasionally alters Scaling after big patches. I've had to fix it several times before. So my guess is incorrect scaling was the issue.

So yes, hate to rain on your parade, but not even 1080ti or Titan XP is capable of maintaining above 144 with max settings at 1440p on Overwatch.

SCROLL TO BOTTOM IF YOU WOULD LIKE THE SKIP MY EXPLANATION AND GO STRAIGHT TO REVIEW.

Max is not average nor is it 1% minimums. This was brought up on Anandtech threads before. There are benchmarks that show a 1080TI cannot maintain above 144fps regardless of processor platform on max settings at 1440p at all times. There is a difference between Max and minimum. They can vary by 100 or more depending on the game. Your average will be above 144fps, but your minimums will drop below 144 on occasion when things become intense.

Also I have a 1080 and that 179 max would be absolutely rare on ultra at 1440p or with 1440p increased set scaling on 1080 screen size. It would only occur in the least intensive areas. I also have 7700k , 32mb 3000mhz cl14 ram, and my 1080 defaults to 2000mhz(could get 100 more but do not care). I have a 960 pro as well. So Im close to Max Gaming Specs I listed above, but with 1080 vs 1080ti. Comparing my settings and my tests to 30% increase of 1080TI performance I can guarantee you even without benchmarks that you CANNOT maintain above 144FPS at max settings at ALL times. Average yes. Max definitely. 10% minimums...probably. 1% minimums no. 0.1% minimums definitely not.

This often comes up. Do not think you can do a quick FPS check in ai bot mode or training and expect that to be multiplayer reality. Your Max and average FPS will be sufficient. Common minimums would be sufficient. However, 1% minimums and the rare 0.1% minimums that are sometimes ignored by players will drop below 144fps at max settings at proper render scale at 1440p in OW with 1080Ti.

Now, the minimums should be close enough to 144fps(I listed the expected values in previous post) that you probably wouldn't care and you definitely would not notice with your eyes. If you have a Gsync monitor and you limit to 140FPS to prevent latency spike during on/off transition, call it good.

---------------------------------

http://www.techspot.com/review/1352-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-ti/page5.html This benchmark uses a 7700k set to 4.9 OC, and 32gb 3000mhz ram. Scroll down to Ultra quality OW setting. Compare 1080p and 1440p. 1440p on ULTRA SETTINGS reaches minimums of 126FPS. Thats not even EPIC SETTINGS. 1080p however is capable of reaching the numbers you are expecting.

The preset graphics setting you see before clicking additional settings is meaningless. You can have it set to Epic and have every setting at low or off. It is likely you were not running full Epic before. Or if you were, the scaling was lower. I too have seen the game automatically change scaling after patches. As said, it is simply impossible to get steady over 190fps at QHD Epic with any single GPU.
