So we have crazy old women or dumb young kid. I love America.

WTF??? She has no such right. Just where in the fsck do you think she derives such a right?

Yes she does have that right if she feels adequately harassed. I am not saying she is right because I don't know the facts but she has the right to bring complaint if she feels justified. Just because the word meow may seem harmless to you does not make it so to someone who is feeling harassed. we don't know all that facts. If the boy said Fyou over and over and over and over every time he saw her would that make it different? She could be crazy or the boy could be dumb as I stated above and this should never have gotten to this point I agree but she has the right to not be harassed. If the boy meowed twice than it appears as if she is old and crazy but if the boy is continually meowing her than she has a point.

By the way I am reporting you to the mods because you twice using a "profanity" aimed in my direction thus harassing. I am consulting an attorney to bring about harassment charges. ;)

And yes I am kdding about the last.

Edit: I derived the idea she has the right because she actually did it. Seems logical to me to assume that a case that is already in progress proves she has the right. It may be dismissed but she has the right.

Would the writer please decide if this is a civil or criminal case? You don't "sue" someone in criminal court. The state proescutes an offender, possibly based on a witness complaint.

Sorry, I'm just being anal today.

damn i missed that in school. can you show me where you have the right to not be meowed at?

here i thought we had freedom of speech. the kid is not saying anything rude or mean to her. he is just meowing.

i really hope the judge throws this out and meows at the old dirtbag.

NO she does not. in fact the law is on the kids side. he has the freedom of speech. he can meow to his hearts content when he see's her. He is not going banging on her door and doing it. he is not calling her or sending her letters.

when she is outside and he sees her he meows. thats it.

that is not harrasment.

Sure, go look up the definition of harassment. If this boy is continually meowing at her after she asks him not to than she has the right to file a complaint. I am not saying she is right but she has the right.

Just because the word is not a profanity or have negative connotations to you does not mean it is not harassment for her. Let go of your tolerance of meow and think about a situation in which seemingly innocent words would upset you if done continually without cease (even after repeated attempts by you to cease said behaviorby the other individual). What if your girlfriend or sister had someone who would continually meow at her everytime she was seen until she went into the house or drove away? What recourse would you have? Physically assault them? Then go to jail. Yell at them? Makes them enjoy it more. Sue them? Get their attention quick.

Why should a woman file a sexual harassment lawsuit in a workplace that tells sexual jokes? She isn't affected is she? She has no right to sue another over jokes that make her uncomfortable right?

Good post, quite logical, but I definitely say this should be thrown out.

Yes, she has the right to do it, but this is a definite waste of a trial.

Sorry, waggy, but I will have to disagree. Misdemeanor Harassment can be any verbal or non-verbal action that is done continuously to harass someone.

Someone can continually tease and call a person a racial slur and they can be tried and found guilty of misdemeanor harassment. You can have the charge done for just saying an expletive at someone, but usually something that ridiculous will be thrown out unless they can show probable cause that you have outbursts often enough to warrant harassment. Also, filing a charge like this is a lot of trouble, so most people won't do it.

Usually the only people who do it, are people genuinely being harassed or people who are cratchety haters, who like to fuss about everything, like this old woman. Usually the defendant will only get community service or a court fine though unless it is serious.

Man, working in CJ makes me think I should go to Law school, but I know I want Medical school. ;) Wish me luck.

The judge should toss this out and fine the idiot who filed this suit for wasting the time of police and the courts.

I agree. The neighbor is just being an arsehole. Some people get a grudge and do whatever they can to cause trouble. I'm sure it all started with that cat.

She just wants to be a senile old lady that can set in her house and not hear a noise or be disturbed while she slowly dies. I have a few neighbors like that in my neighborhood. One has complained about my brother riding his bike down the street. She complained to the neighborhood board counsil or whatever you want to call it.. her defense was that he scared her.. thought he was somebody coming to break into her house. And of course everybody in this neighborhood is up each others arse.. they pretty much asked my little brother not to ride his bike down that street anymore. :disgust:

If she wants a quite area she needs to move to it.

Agreed. Remember people. Live a life without regrets now before you get old. Otherwise you will end up with a lot of regrets and end up trying to take it out on the world.
