BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Eating 137 chicken wings in 12 minutes is not about stomach capacity, he says. But can't it help just a little when you weigh 420 pounds?
In a major upset in the world of competitive eating, Eric Booker, of Long Island, put away 10 more wings than tiny Sonya Thomas, of Alexandria, Va., better known as the "Black Widow" of the circuit.
The 105-pound Thomas was the favorite in the National Chicken Wing Festival in Buffalo Saturday.
Thomas won last year. She's also the taco-, oyster- and bratwurst-eating champion of the world.
But Booker won over the crowd of 7,500 with some rap lyrics before getting down to business. He washed down the wings with gulps of water and iced tea.
Twenty minutes later, the Black Widow was spotted eating potato chips.
She said, "I'm still hungry."
