Prettymuch, XP SP2 just put in a 200GB drive on a Promise 100 XT expansion card.

Only can partition 137GB (131 or 132) in windows. Anyways, what do I need to do to make it function correctly, this is going to be a data drive. I am stuck. I have tried to update the Promise controller drivers but that didn't do anything. I have also tried to look at it in Partition Magic and it only shows the 131/132 in windows. Thanks much guys

Matt~

What does your bios detect it as? Are you using Fat or NTFS?

There used to be a 137gb limit in Windows, but that was fixed long ago.

The correct size, like 186 or something. Close enough to 200 IMO. I know the limit was fixed, that's why it bothers me. NTFS by the way.

Try connecting it to your motherboard's IDE connectors as opposed to the Promise card. See if that makes a difference.

Does that card support 48-bit addressing, or whatever bit size addressing is needed? ATA-6 or whatever.

Big Drive Enabler

Maxtor's Big Drive Enabler is a one step executable that enables support for drives larger than 137 Gigabytes in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 and XP Service Pack 1. This utility takes the guess work out of editing the Windows registry. The Big Drive Enabler fixes an operating system limitation. This utility is needed anytime a Hard Disk Drive larger than 137 GB is connected to the motherboard's ATA bus, regardless of any system BIOS that supports 48-bit LBA.

Hey all. My first Post here. Yay. Hey MatthewMaes. I had the same issue at a mates house who recently bought a new PC. You need to get the drivers for your controller, and load them when XP is installed. I know it may be a pain to do this, but when it asks you to press F? to load any special SCSI or IDE drivers, press it, then follow the prompts and load the driver from there. That will correct your problem, im certain.

All Promise ATA/100 controller cards support 48-bit LBA but most require a BIOS update as well as the latest driver. The release notes for one particular Promise ATA/100 model state that Windows must be re-installed after the BIOS update.

Which model do you have (there is no Promise 100 XT)?
