133mhz processor and pc100 ram?

I just got an asus cusl2 mobo and a intel 733eb fc-pga as a gift. I was wondering if I could use my pc100 memory with this board and chip? If so, what speed would the processor run at since it is a 133mhz front side bus processor? Thanks!

The CUSL2 can run the processor at 133MHz FSB while running the memory at 100MHz. It's a BIOS setting and you shouldn't have any trouble with it.

Some PC100 will actually run at 133, I remember reading a review of some Kingston PC100 that actually outperformed PC133. It is not likely, but you can then do what Tikerz said. Worth a try though, you won't hurt anything, you'll just have to reset your BIOS.

Before you downclock your memory speed, check to see if your PC100 will do the 133. Some will even do it at the CAS2 setting. 🙂 There is only one way to find out.

Good luck,

I have a stick of 64MB PC100 that does 133 CAS2 and a stick that does the dance at CAS3, so it's not all that unusual! -Fish

I'm running my memories at 140 MHz, CAS 3, and they're all PC100. I had one stick that barely made 115, but 3 out of 4 is not too bad. The system is completely stable (but I wouldn't clock this high if I had very important work on it, of course). The sticks are:

·One Micron 32 MB PC125 (inofficial marking)
·Two noname 64 MB PC100.

Addition: the 815 boards in general might be a little bit more sensitive to out-of-spec signals from the DIMMs, I understand. But you can always try...
