Boy, 13, arrested for passing gas
HERALD STAFF REPORT

A student at a Martin County school was arrested earlier this month after he passed gas and turned off his classmate?s computers, according to a report released Friday by the Martin County Sheriff?s Office.

TCPalm.com first reported the arrested this morning.

According to the sheriff's office report, the incident occurred Nov. 4, when the 13-year-old boy ?continually disrupted his classroom environment? by purposely breaking wind. He then shut off some computers other students were using.

A school resource officer placed the boy under arrest after he confessed about his behavior, according to the report. He was charged with disruption of school function and released to his mother.

Arrested?! WTF!

What the hell happened to detention? Or even IS? Wow....

I agree with Dave. The boy was trying to execute a terrorist attack. The appropriate punishment is ironically the gas chamber.

If they charge him as an adult, his record will follow him around for the rest of his life.

Seriously, though, between the police's salary, all the booking procedure, the inevitable court time-including the public paying for one, probably two lawyers, etc, etc, does this strike anyone as a bureaucracy gone mad? I bet if you added it all up $5,000 or more of public funds is wasted on this. And then they will complain there is no money for education.

1. This is what he was charged with: http://www.leg.state.fl.us/STA...3ESection%2013#0877.13

2. It sounds like the bigger issue was shutting off the computers.

3. When an article has an intentionally misleading headline, I don't put much faith in the information in it. We weren't there, and the reporter wasn't there, so we don't know how disruptive this kid was being. I'd like to think that they would only use the legal system if this is a kid who has a long history of being disruptive, and this specific incident was a bit more serious than farting repeatedly. The school has their own forms of discipline, and I think they must have exhausted their options before this kid was charged with a crime.

If it smelled like what I Just did I find the arrest reasonable. Hell, I think I just ruined my chair.

Hmmm.. if only I could figure out how the kid managed to turn off the computers by farting. That just might be the greatest hack of all time!!!

Perhaps they can put him into the same max prison as the guy who committed an assault on an officer of the law by passing gas in his general direction.

The kid was trying to cause a disturbance.

Shutting off the computers was an attempt to disrupt class.

The school more than likely attempted to get the kid to behave and he would not.

A headline grabbing story to sell papers was created.

And AT bought into it, lock stock and barrel.
