Let em get this straight, if I'm using Firebird 0.6 now I CAN'T upgrade? I have to do a new install and reinstall all the plugins too?

I upgraded from Firebird and yes, I did loose all the plugins, themes and bookmarks. Bookmarks were easy to recover though...simply export them to .html in Firebird and import them in Firefox. I can live with the loss of the plugins/themes.

Why can't they develop an upgrade? This makes no sense to me at all.

Because FireFox is not a finished product. The underlying code is still undergoing significant changes. One the program hits 1.0 in the summer, things should slow down and such upgrades will be possible. As great as FireFox is, it's still in beta.

I installed Firefox on a box with 0.6, I didn't have any plugins installed, so I don't know about that, but it automatically imported the settings and bookmarks from Firebird.

So what would be the benefit of me going from Firebird .6 to Firefox? Should I just wait til version 1.0 comes out?

I upgraded from Firebird 0.6 to Firefox 0.8 without any problems. It detected/enabled all of my extensions. It found my bookmarks. Everything went great.

Until I tried to install ZoneAlarm yesterday. That killed my profiles for both Firebird/Firefox and Thunderbird.

.8 is much more stable and has a few new features that are nice (take a look at the changelogs). If reinstalling plugins is too much of a hassle, then don't bother, but .8 is a far more developed browser than .6.

I've been sticking with Mozilla 1.6 for now. Firefox is a cool idea, and I will switch once it gets stable enough. But there are still too many small annoyances for me to make the permanent switch.

I'll stick with FB 0.7 until there are more developed plugins/themes for 0.8, I'm in no rush.

I didn't have to uninstall Firebird...it just didn't port my themes, plugins or bookmarks across. No big deal. Great browser btw :)
