Why the hell didnt the reporters wait to get CONFIRMED results before reporting the news? You know, isn't getting all the facts before you make such a claim the first rule of journalism? I feel bad for those 12 families.

Proof CNN said that 12 were alive

Idiot.

Why are you calling him an idiot???

edit: for what it's worth, News media seems to care more about who gets the story out first than with accuracy. Remember 9/11 and how many were "dead"... it started around 10k and slowly dropped. Sensationalism sells, and the simple rumor that 12 were alive was reason enough (for CNN and other news broadcasters) to broadcast this story.

Yes why are you calling me an idiot? It's not my fault that CNN and other news reporters got the story wrong.

Look, when it comes to this magnitude of a story, you better be damn sure that what you are reporting are facts. Reporters arent supposed to make rumors headlines. That's what the tabloids are for. CNN messed up whether it was due to misinformation or something else. It's one thing to be the "first to break the story", but if you are a reputable news source, you should be 99.9% sure what you are putting on your website is accurate.

The governor of the freaking state confirmed that these guys were alive. Who do you want CNN to call, the president? No, CNN did NOT mess up. They were given information from official sources and they reported it. They were not being sensationalistic, they were reporting the news that they were told.

Stop being such an idiot. If you had one once of clue as to how the media worked you would not be posting what you did.

If you continue reading the thread after I posted that, I took all i said before back as I realized I was misinformed. I wasnt aware it was the governor that said it. I now realize it's not the media's fault and I apologized which not many members here do when they realize they are wrong. Relax and have a

I'd posted that the governor said that two posts before the one you quoted me. It irritates me when people mindlessly attack the media.

Look, I refreshed the page when I woke up, it went straight to the bottom and I saw I was being called an idiot so I ignored all the other new posts that happened before you insulted me and responded to that one. I again apologized for me being inaccurate with my facts and take my attack on CNN back as well. It is not the media's fault and I ALREADY apologized for blaming them. What more do you want from me? Blood?

LOL... how ironic you say that... it was the whole cause of your misunderstanding... the one you won't admit to even though I tried to let you down softly at first with the "please read". But no, you had to push it.

Please spare me. I didn't mean to do that. I wanted to worship you but there was a clear misunderstanding so let me down easy.
Ya right.

Slicing my post to misconstrue my sentiments isn't irony. The only thing I can get out of your actions was that either you have severe reading disorder or an intense desire to slam someone you feel stepped on your toes.
You might have both too but really it isn't the end of the world.

Where are you getting that the governor of the state told CNN that the 12 miners were alive? I was watching last night when they announced it a little before midnight. Anderson Cooper was saying that they were alive. Then a little later he showed how he got his information. They showed some guy running up to him all out of breath telling him that they had found them and all 12 were alive. Cooper asked him where he got that information and the guy said from one of the rescue crew coming out of the mine. And that was it. Apparently some unknown middle-aged out-of-shape guy with a beard and ugly hat is all the confirmation CNN needs to report a story.

I kept watching until after 1:30 am Eastern time and Anderson Cooper even asked aloud more than once why they hadn't heard from the governor and when would they be having a press conference. He even stated that he knew the families had gotten the information they did from someone calling a family member on a cell phone, not from some credible source.

I went to bed thinking the miners were alive. The major news outlets dropped the ball BIG time on this one.

Weird. My SJ Mercury headline is 'Horrifying Ending' and says 12 of 13 dead. Yours is Wednesday, Jan 4th Final Edition?

I'll take a pic of it and put it up. I think they might have changed the editions in the newstand but mine was delivered early in the morning.

I just watched Countdown with Keith Olbermann and they showed the chain of events and the entire time after CNN reported they were alive, people were waiting for the governor to make an official statement which didnt come until hours later. Apparantly they talked to the families individually letting them know of the ACTUAL news. The news outlets reporting what they did would have been fine, i think, if they said the results were Unconfirmed. This, like Munich, was a miscommunications tragedy. Lots of people, including the media, dropped the ball on this.

You stepped on my toes ? Where ? How ?

It's clear why I slammed you. It wasn't unprovoked. And from your history, it's well deserved. When people are repeat offenders of idiocy, it's not hard to notice.

Tick-tock till your next one.

That doesn't mean anything. If they didn't report the correction then their ass would be toast.
DOES NOT APPLY HERE. You didn't know the story. You're wrong. Like it.

Looks like that its not only that you don't know how to read, you also have the tendency to withhold anger against people who might have crossed your path the wrong way.

No wonder you like to slam people. tsk tsk.

Not CNN in particular, as his press conference announcing they were alive was open to all press. But he did speak out and say it.

Here's another one.. Ignore the website, the source is still AP.

They told us they have 12 alive," said Joe Manchin, West Virginia?s governor. "We have some people that are going to need some medical attention."

Blame game aside, this is a sad news story and I feel bad for the miners' families.

He got the information the same way the media did, its not like he was in some super secret cave lair with floating cameras that showed him the real information. He was misinformed just like everyone else.
