anyone used both? any difference in performance?

thinking about buying one for my wife but the 13" MBA is a bit on the expensive side and thinking about the 13" MBP instead

Seriously.

Air: Slower, higher res screen, SSD standard, fewer ports
Pro: The opposite of all that.

since my wife will be using it 99% of the time i wanted to make sure that it wouldn't lag or seem slow. a lot of people are buying Air's including people she knows.

Either system will be snappy and responsive, but unless you put an SSD into the Pro, bringing the costs more in line with each other, the Air will be more so. What will she be doing with the system?

I have a few more to add to that...

Air: lighter weight, screen has washed out colors, screen is harder to clean and easier to scratch, no HD Facetime.

Pro: still the opposite of that.

Screen resolution is top on my list, so I went with the MBA 13.3" ...and I plan to use it heavily.

From what I have seen, it's a pretty solid laptop.

Played with both at best buy today. Speed seemed the same but the screen on the Mbp did have better colors. Read that it's an issue with the latest airs.

Will probably lean towards the Mbp
