Does this bode well for Conroe in terms of being a capable cpu for gaming?

Edit: He used a stock X1900XTX while FGG also benched a Conroe at simliar speeds but with an overclocked card but manages to get ~500 more points.

3DMarks has always been about videocards. I'm sure that if you compare the Conroe with any other cpu, AMD or older Intel, it will still come out on top. ;)

Welll....That's pretty good but not record setting. The 13.1 K with a stock XTX is pretty impressive. The 13.5 K most anyone with an OC'ed to the hilt XTX can achieve. Probably still room for optimizations with Bios and timings, etc. But they did have good memory with good timings and a decent mobo. I'd love to have one.

It's not a stock XTX, its running at 720/828

A decent overclock, and the highest score for a X1900XTX on xtremesysmtes is 15774, but of course thats with LN2 cooling and an FX57 at 3.8ghz

The 13.5 K run was at 720/828. The 13.1 K run was done by the owner of the website with a stock clocked XTX. I think a 2.6 single core AMD and a stock XTX scores around 12 K at best. Not sure about dual core AMD's. Maybe 12.3-12.5 K??

Not quite sure how the dual cores do on 05 generally, but with the rig in my sig, I score about 12235 with a X1900XT flashed to XTX at 729/832. Oh yeah, my ram is being ran at 2T timings (curse ASUS to hell) and my CPU is ran at 2.8ghz with the ram at 255mhz.

The 3dmark01 score of 41000 is the impressive score. That benchmark is by far cpu limited and it shows Conroe is doing fairly well. Even if conroe was only as fast as A64 per mhz, it would already be a winner since 2.16 will retail for $240, less than $295 of 2.0ghz X2 3800+. If conroe is faster, amd really has its work cut out.

I'd be more interested in what Conroe gets in the cpu tests of 3dmark 05 and 06. The overall score is mostly dependent on the video card, so it's not as relevant.

Didn't Intel typically excel at 3dmark before the Athlon64 architecture came out?

These benchies are nice but I'm reserving judgement until a full suite of tests is done on final or near final silicon by Anandtech or another reputable site (Intel test setups don't count).

I'm digging everything about the Conroe so far, though. 4 MB of shared L2 cache; 1.15V stock, 1.29V to get to 2.66 GHz!

Yeah, although I expect Conroe to offer a nice improvement over the P4, I'm still waiting for some official benches, and in apps that dont rely heavily on a 4mb cache, before believing all the hype about Conroe.

THe 13.1k score is very impressive IMO. With an X1900XTX@stock and a 165@2.8GHz I scored ~11,500. With the specs in my sig I get ~13,400. It'll be nice when we get a comprehensive review of Conroe's abilities.
