12V extension cord

I just bought a 12V air compressor for my truck that plugs into the cigarette lighter. The cord that it comes with is long enough to be able to reach each of the four tires, but I had also hoped to be able to use it on a trailer while it was still hitched.

Anyone know where I can get an extension cord? I'm thinking 15' will be enough, but longer is better. TIA

Fair enough. Should I use a specific gauge of wire? What length can I run before having to worry about resistance and such?

I thought low voltage needed thinner wire. My thinking: a thicker wire creates a larger resistance. So the current cannot travel as far.
