Okay, that should be enough.

I'd like to know what everyone thinks about the "nature" of women in terms of their intellectual interests.

Although I meet many women who are smart, I find that they are "smart" (whatever this term actually means) about different sorts of things than men.

For instance, how many women do you know who are politically active? Clearly there are some female politicians -- Hillary Clinton, for example.

My general theory (and again, I don't claim this applies to everyone) is that men are better at thinking about 'big picture' items whereas women like to focus on day to day details.

Again, using a political example, I find most women aren't interested in politics (as the subject generally involves large scale thinking). If they are, it's not because they like the issues, it's because they like dealing with people and performing tasks. We see this all the time with the big shot CEO and the secretary that does all of his day to day work.

Women who do have political opinions seem to be more liberal and focused on social issues. Foreign policy, national security... these things are sometimes not in their vocabulary.

I will personally make the claim that I've NEVER met a women who has a 'big picture' perspective. Try to prove me wrong with a counterexample from your personal experience...

i think i have to agree with what you said.

i am not offended in that i feel there are differences amongst the sexes besides the obvious physical ones.

In "traditional" roles, women were/are required to multitask to an almost absurd degree: clean, cook, breastfeed, drive the kids to the doctor, pay bills, shop for groceries (often just about all at the same time.) Life for a housewife was geared toward making life simple for the "breadwinner." It's no longer the 1950s, but you still see these tendencies today. I have no idea if it's nature or nurture (genetic or learned), but I strongly suspect it's at least partly nature.

I am more politically active then any man I know.
I am more politically knowledgable then any man I know.
I am more intelligent than ALMOST any man I know.
I am a republican (there arent many of us, I know)

As a broad statement, I will say that most women are democrats, because most republicans dont do enough to empower women or deal with their issues. Such as affordable childcare, equal wages, abortion and educating their kids.

Many women DO look at the big picture. But for them, the big picture goes as far as making sure the bills are paid, the kids are fed and the man's sh!t is cleaned up after.

My big picture... is seeing how this country is going to he!! in a hand basket cause no one is raising our kids properly, or educating them. Profits are more important then people and globalization is killing our Constitution. But bring these things up in a tupperware meeting and get pelted with plastic.

I know many women my age who kick my butt in terms of sheer intellectual prowess; one of them posted in this thread. :p Liberal studies, mathematics, sciences, whatever.

I know fewer women who exhibit the qualities that I think would be necessary to get by as a leader in the business world. It takes a certain amount of cutthroat resolve and unemotional response that I would suggest has not been cultivated by modern society as being ladylike. Slowly, as the genders balance out and we move further into a service-oriented economy I see this changing.

I know even fewer women my age that are roughly equal to my level of political astuteness. Politics is even more cutthroat than business is and a lot of the same points apply. However I will say one thing. It's next to worthless for the common male to discuss politics with his peers - so are women really behind us in this respect, or ahead? :p

Absolutely, it's emotional shaping by society - not anything to do with intelligence. I know what you're after is a discussion, but there were many articles written after Margaret Thatcher took her place on Downing Street about how women are forced to masculinize themselves to participate in politics. Worth a search or two if you're interested.

Smart women invest wisely. Smart men know how to manipulate to achieve dominance and superiority. I'm not just talking about finance either.
